We went to our first Indian food restaurant last night and tried it for the very first time. I got chiken biriyani(sp?) and I have to say

IT WAS DELICIOUS!! Yay! I was really worried I wouldn't like it. :-)

The only problem is, almost EVERYTHING on the menu was made with dairy of some kind. And my oldest son is allergic. He was really dissapointed in his peas and rice chutney and I'm sure it will be difficult to get him to go back :-( But on the bright side my baby could eat the nan(bread) because it has no WHEAT! hooray! Now I guess I'll have to learn to cook it too. :-)

That stinks that your son couldn't eat much at the restaurant. My dd is also allergic to dairy, so we don't eat dairy either. A lot of Indian food actually has no dairy in it - you just have to figure out what doesn't (or what you can substitute in for the dairy). You might want to try getting a couple Indian cookbooks from the library to look through. Some of them use all kinds of ingredients that you would have a hard time getting, but others are more "Americanized" and use ingredients that are common in the US.
