My tirade against public schools
I just posted this in reply to a poster's concern that my attitude about public schools might be because of the area I live in, not necessarily public schools in general. I thought I'd post it here in my blog as well. "Thank you for your concern. How do you define outstanding? What attributes do you feel makes a public school a viable education source for children? I do not feel it is the area I live in. I think you and I have differing views on what constitutes an outstanding education. I believe the children of today are desperately in need of a leadership education not a conveyor belt education. And schools by their nature are only able to provide the latter. What happened to the thinkers and doers? The men who gave our country its freedom? Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, George Washington... were these men educated in public schools? No, especially not in public schools like we have today. Public schools of today teach little bits of nothing intermixed with political correctness and fear to stand up for one's beliefs for fear that they might offend. They are not teaching our children strength, courage, and sense of self. They do not instill a love and respect for our country and our freedom. They are failing, plain and simple. Our founding fathers were generally self taught or mentored by great men like George Wythe. They recieved their education by reading the classics. Learning directly from the source, the men who made the discoveries and changed the thinking of the world. Who will lead us if our children are not taught to be leaders? Who will defend us when the children who have been lulled into a false sense of security and apathy are being led merilly into slavery? Most people in America today don't even who the candidates are let alone which laws are being passed to slowly take away their freedom. These are perilous times and the public schools are not providing our children with what is needed to survive in our everchanging world. Again thank you for your concern. Maybe you will take what I have stated to heart. Maybe it will anger you as well it should. After all, you love your child's school and it may pain you to realize that others think they are lacking. But maybe, just maybe, it will inspire you to investigate for yourself this issue. I recommend reading "The abolition of Man" by C.S. Lewis, "Cultural Literacy" by E.D. Hirsch, and "A Thomas Jefferson Education for the Twenty-first Century" by Oliver Van Demille (available at George Wythe College) for starters. Maybe instead of writing a seething reply to me, you will use that energy to make a real difference in your child's life." posted by Tamra at 06:02 PM

One should respect public opinion in so far as is necessary to avoid starvation and to keep out of prison, but anything that goes beyond this is voluntary submission to an unnecessary tyranny. Posted by: free poker online on September 21, 2004 03:39 AM

It is not in giving life but in risking life that man is raised above the animal; that is why superiority has been accorded in humanity not to the sex that brings forth but to that which kills. Posted by: online texas holdem on September 22, 2004 01:31 AM
